The NOCP course calendar allows referees the opportunity to “plan” out their educational pathway.  This will also enable CBOC to recruit a team of Learning Facilitators and improve the promotion of NOCP workshops through the Whistle Blast newsletter, as well as Provincial Boards and Commissions.

ASC is offering two valuable and educational workshops in Yellowknife on July 13 & 14. Both workshops will be held at the Arcan Sport Facility, are at no cost with snacks and lunch being provided to participants. These workshops are valuable for coaches, managers, instructors, rec staff,  board members, teachers, anyone working with Indigenous youth or youth in general, or new to the community .

Aboriginal Coaching modules will be held on July 13th and ICA:4L will be held on July 14th. Both workshops will run 9:30-4:30. I have included the ACM poster – but the date has changed to the 13th.
The ACM is a professional development training tool for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal coaches who coach Aboriginal athletes, as they become certified through the NCCP. The material in the ACM has been developed to meet the following learning objectives:
  • Understanding the role of sport in Aboriginal communities.
  • Understanding and positively influencing the community in which you coach.
  • Coaching the whole person; coaching beyond the physical to include the mental (intellectual and emotional), spiritual and cultural.
  • Responding to racism in sport.
  • Establishing a code of behaviour for your team that respects differences and addresses racism.
  • Helping those you coach make healthy lifestyle choices.

The Indigenous Communities: Active for Life resource and accompanying full-day workshop were created with guidance from Indigenous leaders throughout the country, with the purpose of inspiring community leaders looking for culturally tailored resources that act as a vehicle toward individual and community holistic development.
The resource and workshop support these individual champions as they embark on a journey to develop sustainable quality sport and physical activity programs, build collaborative relationships, and re-engage their community members into active and healthy lifestyles.
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will have:
  • Ideas on how to create quality experiences in their sport, physical activity, and recreation programs.
  • An understanding of physical literacy, which is the development of movement skills, confidence, and motivation to be active for life.
  • Tools, resources, and action plans to further support their delivery of quality sport and physical activity programs in their community.
  • Ideas to support their participants’ physical, mental, spiritual, and cultural needs.
  • A certificate of workshop completion and 3 National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Professional Development (PD) points (if applicable).
